Basic MagicINFO Server Installation

This guide covers a fresh, default installation of MagicINFO Server on Windows. It does not cover custom system modifications such as HTTPS configuration or port changes.

Before you begin

  • Confirm that the machine meets Samsung's system requirements for the MagicINFO Server version you are installing.
  • Have a modern web browser (for example, Google Chrome) available for the web interface.
  • Keep a text editor open during the installation so you can note down passwords and installation details.

MagicINFO Server requires a database. Both Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL are supported; PostgreSQL is the option recommended by Samsung, and it is the one used in this guide. For background on how the server uses its database, see PostgreSQL and MagicINFO.

Step 1: Install PostgreSQL

Install PostgreSQL first, and make sure you use the PostgreSQL version recommended for your MagicINFO Server release.

  1. Run the PostgreSQL installer.
  2. When prompted, set a database password.
  3. Write this password down in your text file — the MagicINFO installer asks for it later.
  4. Complete the installation. When the installer offers to launch Stack Builder, decline it; it is not needed for MagicINFO.

Step 2: Install MagicINFO Server

  1. Run the MagicINFO Server installer. For a standard installation, the default settings can be kept as they are.
  2. When the installer asks for the database password, enter the password you set during the PostgreSQL installation.
  3. At the end, the installer displays a summary of the installation information and stores it in the installation folder on the C: drive.
tip

Copy the displayed installation summary into the text file where you noted the database password, and keep that file on the server. It saves time when you later need connection details, ports, or credentials.

Step 3: Open the web interface

After the installer finishes, the server components start in the background. This can take 5 to 10 minutes; the web interface is not reachable until the startup completes.

Open a browser and go to one of the following:

  • http://localhost:7001/MagicInfo (on the server itself)
  • http://<server-ip>:7001/MagicInfo (from another machine)

The administrator credentials are stored in the installation folder, in C:\MagicInfo Premium\MISInformation.txt. Recent version 9 builds generate random passwords and record them in this file. Older releases use the classic defaults:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin2016

Step 4: Initial setup

On first login most menus are unavailable, because no license is active yet. Complete the following tasks:

  1. Activate a license. Go to Setting > License Management and register your paid or trial license. See License Management for details.
  2. Change the default passwords. Replace the default admin password and the default organization account password with strong ones of your own.
  3. Add content. Upload images or videos and prepare them for playback. See Step 2: Upload Content from Your Computer.
  4. Connect your displays. Point each device at the server's IP address and configure the TLS/SSL connection as needed. See Connecting a device to the server.
warning

Do not leave the default administrator password in place on a production server. Anyone who can reach port 7001 can otherwise log in with publicly known credentials.
