More Options in the Device List
Beyond registering and grouping devices, the Device menu offers additional functions that operate on the device list itself. Use these options to inspect the status and health of many devices at once, convert a device between player types, and run remote jobs. They are intended for administrators who monitor and maintain devices day to day.
In practice
- A "Success" result means the server accepted the request, not that the display applied it. A display just woken from standby can accept a command and drop it, so check the value again a couple of minutes later and resend if it has not changed.
- A display in network standby keeps checking in, so it can look connected, but it refuses commands and live status reads until it is switched on.
- Treat remote reboot as a last resort. On slow or 4G uplinks we have seen rebooted screens stay offline for 20 to 35 minutes, while a physical power cycle brought them back within about a minute.
What's in this section
- Device List Functions: Edit, Move, Delete — What each button in the MagicINFO Server device list does: edit, delete or move devices, change the view and run other actions on selected devices.
- Device Health: Errors, Warnings and Fixes — Check device health for critical errors and warnings, read the suggested solution and mark issues resolved, so problems are handled before they spread.
- Device Notifications: Find Devices Needing Attention — Find devices with no content or schedule, schedules and playlists about to expire, no time zone set or low storage, all from Device > Notifications.
- Switch a Device Between S Player and W Player — Convert a display from S Player to W Player or back with Device Conversion, both for devices still unapproved and for devices already approved.
- Remote Jobs for I Player: Schedule Tasks — Add remote jobs that run on I Player devices once or on a repeat schedule, then reuse, edit or cancel them. S Player does not support remote jobs.
