Managing Users
The User menu of the MagicINFO Server web console controls who can sign in to the server and what they are allowed to do. Use this section to approve sign-ups, add or delete user accounts, organize users into groups and organizations, and assign the roles and permissions that determine access to content, devices, and schedules. It is intended for general administrators and organization administrators.
What's in this section
- Sign Up for a MagicINFO Server Account — Request your own MagicINFO Server account from the sign-in page with Sign Up. An administrator must approve the account before you can sign in.
- Approve or Reject New User Sign-ups — Approve or reject people who signed up for a MagicINFO Server account, return incomplete requests and export the list of users waiting for approval.
- Add or Delete User Accounts — Create a user account yourself as an administrator, with basic details and organization, or delete accounts that should no longer have access.
- Edit a User: Group, Role and Temporary Password — Open a user from the list to edit their details, move them to another group, change their role or issue a temporary password when they are locked out.
- Search for Users by ID, Name or Filter — Find a user in MagicINFO Server by typing an ID or name into the user list search box, or use custom search to filter by several conditions at once.
- Create and Manage User Groups — Create user groups in MagicINFO Server, move users between them, rename groups and delete the ones you no longer need, all from the User menu.
- Create and Change Organizations — Organizations are the top level for grouping users. Create one together with its organization administrator, or move users to another organization.
- General vs Organization Administrators Explained — How MagicINFO Server separates the general administrator, organizations and groups, and what a general admin can do that an organization admin cannot.
- Managing roles — Add, edit and delete user roles and assign them to users. Organization administrators can only assign roles to users inside their own organization.
- Give Users Permission for Specific Devices — Limit device managers to the screens they look after: the general administrator grants access to selected devices for users with device rights.
- View Withdrawn and Deleted Users — See users who left or were removed by an administrator under Withdrawn Users. Their details are deleted automatically one week after cancellation.
- Sync LDAP Organizations into User Groups — With an LDAP server set up, switch on Organization Sync to bring LDAP organization units into MagicINFO user groups and keep them synchronised.
