Managing Playlists
A playlist combines multiple content files registered in MagicINFO Server into a single item that plays on devices in a defined order. The Playlist menu supports several playlist types — General, Tag, VideoWall, Advertisement, Sync Play, and Nested — matched to the device types licensed on the server. This section is for content managers who build and maintain the playback lineup: creating playlists, keeping them organized in folders and categories, and handling versions, copies, and deletion.
Once a playlist is created, its device type and playlist type cannot be changed. Choose both carefully when creating the playlist.
A playlist is treated as a single content file, so the folder and sharing rules for content also apply to playlists. See Managing Content.
What's in this section
- Creating a playlist — Create a playlist step by step: initial settings, adding and removing content, player settings, random insert, transition effects and saving.
- Viewing playlist details — Open a playlist's details to see the content files it holds and its settings, and change its name, group or sharing without rebuilding it.
- Modifying a playlist — Edit a playlist you already made, from the list or from its details window, using the same editor as when you created it, then save the changes.
- Copying playlists — Copy an existing playlist to start a new one with the same items and settings, then give it a new name and group in the copy window.
- Deleting or restoring a playlist — Delete playlists you no longer use, restore them from the Recycle Bin when you need them again, or remove them permanently from MagicINFO Server.
- Managing playlists by folder — Create folders under My Playlist, move playlists into them, rename folders and delete the ones you no longer need to keep many playlists organised.
- Managing playlists by category — Assign categories to playlists and filter the playlist list by category, so a large playlist library stays easy to search in MagicINFO Server.
- Export and View Options for Playlists — Export the playlist list to Excel or PDF and change how playlists are displayed in the list, using the options of the MagicINFO Playlist menu.
Playlist Types
- Create a Nested Playlist (Playlist in a Playlist) — Build a nested playlist that other playlists can include as one item, so a shared block of content is updated in one place for every playlist.
- Create a Tag Playlist (Content Chosen by Tags) — Build a playlist that picks content by tag, so each device plays only the items whose tags match its own. Needs players that support tag playlists.
- Create a VideoWall Playlist — Make a playlist for a VideoWall group: pick a supported player type, add content sized for the wall and set how it plays across the screens.
- Create an Advertisement Playlist — Build the ad playlist that an advertisement schedule needs, with the content and timing for each date or time slot, before you create the schedule.
- Create a Sync Play Playlist — Create a synced playlist that starts different content on several devices at exactly the same time, the first step before a Sync Play schedule.
- Sync Play Example: One Advert Across Three Screens — Worked example of a Sync Play setup in which one advert or message is split across three displays side by side and changes on all of them together.
