Managing Devices
The Device menu of the MagicINFO Server web console is where the displays and media players connected to the server are authorized, organized, configured, and maintained. Use this section to approve newly connected devices, group and tag them for easier management, edit their settings remotely, and keep them running with software updates, backup playback, and certificates. It is intended for administrators responsible for a fleet of signage devices.
Who can manage which devices
When Device Permissions is turned on, a device manager can only manage the devices that the general administrator or an organization administrator has assigned to them. See Give Users Permission for Specific Devices. Administrators need no extra permission: they can manage every device on the server.
Kiosk devices
- You can check which peripherals, such as a card reader or a barcode scanner, are connected to a kiosk device.
- Before a kiosk sends e-mail, set up its mail account (SMTP server name and port). Before it prints, configure its printer settings.
What's in this section
- Approve New Devices from the Unapproved List — Approve displays that have connected to MagicINFO Server but are not yet authorised: open Device > Unapproved, select them and complete the approval.
- Managing devices by group — Create device groups, move devices into them, and rename or delete groups so a large network is easier to manage and to publish to in one go.
- Managing devices with tags — Add media and variable tags in MagicINFO Server and assign them to devices one by one or by group, so content plays only on the right screens.
- Tag Matching: Which Content Plays on Which Device — How tags on devices, playlist items and DataLink data decide what plays, with examples of multiple tags and of full versus partial tag matching.
- Device Presets: Apply the Same Settings to Many Devices — Save device settings as a preset, publish it to groups and keep screens consistent: a preset is reapplied at power-on even if someone changed a setting.
- Adjusting through Quick Control — Use Quick Control to change common settings on a selected device in a couple of clicks, such as power or input source, without the full edit window.
- Controlling device remotely — Open the Remote Control window to operate one or several devices from MagicINFO Server, and add or remove devices from the control session.
- Configuring custom logo and default content — Replace the Samsung logo with your own logo or default content at start-up, shutdown and between playback, then publish, change or remove it.
- Backup Play: Redundant Playback on a Second Device — Let a backup display take over important content when the primary one loses its network or input source. Both displays must be in the same device group.
- Update Display Firmware and Player Software — Register a firmware or player software file in MagicINFO Server, publish it to devices at a chosen time, then edit, delete or track the deployment.
- Manage LED Displays and Cabinets — Check LED displays connected to MagicINFO Server and manage their cabinets: status, cabinet search, layouts, dehumidification and external power.
- Publish 802.1X and TLS Certificates to Devices — Send certificates to your displays from MagicINFO Server: an 802.1X certificate for Wi-Fi access, or the TLS certificate that devices use for HTTPS.
Device Information
- Device Information Tab: Name, MAC and IP — The Information tab of the edit device window: rename the device and read its MAC address, IP address and the other basic details it reports.
- Device Time Tab: Clock and On/Off Timers — The Time tab of the edit device window: set the device's current date and time and program timers that switch the display on and off automatically.
- Device Settings Tab: Time Zone, DST and More — The Settings tab of the edit device window: set the device time zone and daylight saving time, and change the other main device management options.
- Display Control Tab: Panel and Input Source — The Display Control tab of the edit device window: switch the panel on or off, change the input source and adjust other display settings remotely.
- Device Security Tab: Safety Lock and Remote Lock — The Security tab of the edit device window: lock the display's main settings, block the remote control and set other device security options.
More Device List Options
- Device List Functions: Edit, Move, Delete — What each button in the MagicINFO Server device list does: edit, delete or move devices, change the view and run other actions on selected devices.
- Device Health: Errors, Warnings and Fixes — Check device health for critical errors and warnings, read the suggested solution and mark issues resolved, so problems are handled before they spread.
- Device Notifications: Find Devices Needing Attention — Find devices with no content or schedule, schedules and playlists about to expire, no time zone set or low storage, all from Device > Notifications.
- Switch a Device Between S Player and W Player — Convert a display from S Player to W Player or back with Device Conversion, both for devices still unapproved and for devices already approved.
- Remote Jobs for I Player: Schedule Tasks — Add remote jobs that run on I Player devices once or on a repeat schedule, then reuse, edit or cancel them. S Player does not support remote jobs.
VideoWall
- Create a VideoWall Layout in the VWL Layout Editor — Build a VideoWall layout in the VWL Layout Editor: choose the layout type and number of screens, arrange the displays and fine-tune their positions.
- Apply, View or Cancel a VideoWall Layout — Apply a VideoWall layout to a device group, check which layout a group is using, and cancel it when the screens should play separately again.
- Manage Saved VideoWall Layouts — Open a VideoWall layout you made in the VWL Layout Editor to change it, or use the other options in the layout selection window to manage saved layouts.
