PostgreSQL and MagicINFO

PostgreSQL is an open-source database management system. A MagicINFO Server installation uses it as its primary data store: almost every action performed in MagicINFO is saved to the database, and the server reads it back whenever it needs to display or process that data.

What MagicINFO stores in the database

  • User accounts
  • Content metadata — the actual media files live on the server's file system, while automatically generated ID codes and details are stored in PostgreSQL
  • Playlist, ruleset, and schedule information
  • Device information
  • Server settings
  • License information

Should you change anything in the database directly?

No — not unless you know exactly what you are doing. MagicINFO depends on this data to operate, and a manual edit in the database can break the server in ways that are hard to diagnose.

If you are unsure about anything you see in PostgreSQL or pgAdmin, leave it as it is. If you believe a direct database change is genuinely necessary, contact your MagicINFO supplier or Samsung representative first.

Viewing the data with pgAdmin

PostgreSQL ships with pgAdmin, a separate management application installed automatically alongside the database. With pgAdmin you can browse the MagicINFO tables, run queries, and perform database maintenance.
