MagicINFO Server 9 System Requirements (2026)
This page lists what a computer needs to run MagicINFO Server 9 (builds 21.10xx) as it stands in late 2026, based on Samsung's current requirements page and the server release notes. Requirements change from build to build, so read the release notes of the exact build you are installing as well.

Operating system
Current builds list three server editions of Windows and one desktop edition: Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 Professional. Windows 11 Professional was added in build 21.1050.0.
Older Windows versions that appeared on earlier lists, such as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016, are not on the list for current builds. Home editions of Windows have never been supported. For a server that displays depend on around the clock, a Windows Server edition is the sensible choice; the desktop edition suits a trial or a lab.
Database
Install the database before you install MagicINFO Server.
- PostgreSQL 18 is the version on Samsung's current requirements page. Support for it arrived in build 21.1092.3 (July 2026); earlier builds do not list it.
- PostgreSQL 15 has been supported since build 21.1050.0. The release notes of every build from 21.1070.0 onwards say that a server using PostgreSQL must be on 15.x before it is upgraded: back up the database, install PostgreSQL 15, then restore. If your server still runs PostgreSQL 9.x or 12, plan that step first.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or newer. Build 21.1092.3 added SQL Server 2022 and 2025 to the supported list.
See Choose a database: PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server for the preparation steps, and PostgreSQL and MagicINFO for what the database holds.
Browser
Google Chrome is the only browser on the current list. Internet Explorer, which older lists included, is no longer listed. Other modern browsers often work; if something looks wrong, try Chrome before troubleshooting further. More in Recommended browser.
Hardware and sizing
The published minimum is a dual-core 2.5 GHz CPU, 2 GB of memory and 200 GB of disk. Treat that as the floor for a trial or a handful of displays, not as a production target.
A rough guide for planning:
- Disk grows with your content library, so size it for the videos and images you will upload, plus room for database backups.
- CPU and memory grow with the number of displays, because every connected display checks in with the server every few seconds. Samsung's load tests were run on 4-core and 8-core servers.
- Large fleets can split the database onto its own server; see Clustering: separate database, WAS and proxy servers.
For the device counts measured in those tests, read Server sizing: hardware by number of devices.
Installing and upgrading
- Run the installer from a Windows administrator account.
- Before an upgrade, the installer runs a pre-check of the computer. Current release notes ask for .NET Framework 4.0 or later for it; older builds needed .NET 2.0. See Upgrade pre-check.
- Some builds ask for display firmware to be updated before the server is upgraded. Read the "How to upgrade" notes of the target build first, then follow Updating MagicINFO Server.
VideoWall network requirements
A VideoWall plays content in sync across several displays, so the local network matters more than for single screens:
- A 1 Gbit network is recommended.
- Use a 1 Gbit Ethernet Layer 2 switch that supports IGMP snooping.
- Cable with Cat 5e UTP or better; Cat 6 (UTP or STP) is recommended.
- If the wall may grow later, choose a switch with more than one uplink port (optional, but it saves a replacement).
Not sure which build you have?
Finding the MagicINFO version shows four places to read it. Compare it with the release notes before you change Windows, the database or the server build.
